Farmingdale Christian Church

Missionary Updates

These are the ministries that the Farmingdale Christian Church supports on a regular basis, bringing the word of God and the message of Jesus Christ to people around the world.

Christian Television in Italy

Christian Television in Italy began as a dream in the hearts of Chuck and Nora Hall after having served as missionaries to the nation of Italy. The Halls had no previous experience in television and trusted the Lord to provide for His work. They found favor with the owner of one Italian TV network who provided free airtime for their programs. In 1981 they produced and hosted their first 16 programs entitled “Controcorrente” (Against the Current). The programs began with the statement, “The purpose of this program is to encourage you to go against the current of this world and in the way of the Lord.” The response was tremendous. Since that time they have produced over 700 one hour programs and are also producing programs for seven other pastors and teachers in Italy. They have had opportunity to minister in many European nations and are assisting with the establishment of Christian broadcasting in many nations previously closed to the gospel. This includes Russia, North Africa and the Middle East. We have been supporting the ministry since 1984 and we are thankful for the great work they are doing.

Missions to Asia

Rev. Billy Taylor and his wife Janet began their ministry to the Philippines in 1982. Their focus is evangelism, church planting and training up nationals to be evangelists, pastors and teachers. By 2004 they had in operation 5 Bible schools and 50 churches in many different districts of the Philippines. There are more today! There is a full time staff of over 40 people. The ministry owns a boat enabling them to go to unreached islands to preach the Gospel for the first time ever. People are not just evangelized but congregations are started and people are cared for and grow in their faith. The Taylor’s have five children and some of them are currently working in the ministry. We have been supporting the Taylor’s ministry since 1988 and we are thankful for the great work they are doing.

Outward Focused Equipping Grace Ministries

Jim Newsom gave his life to Christ during a time of great personal crisis. He turned himself in to the police and served 18 years of a 30-year sentence for murder. During that time he learned what it meant to be a follower of Christ and led many prisoners to faith in Christ. Today he continues to minister to prisoners and their families as well as to children in public schools with a drug and alcohol presentation. He equips believers through teaching seminars and encourages local churches to focus outward on the lost and needy around them. Jim and Dianne have two children. We have been supporting the Jim and Dianne since 1990 and we are thankful for the great work they are doing.

Jim and Sherry Oxendine - Missionary Training & Orphanage Ministry

Jim and Sherry Oxendine began ministering in Russia in 1992, and moved there as full time missionaries in 1998. In 2006, they moved to Daytona Beach, Florida to help found Global Outlook Missions Intensive. They served as Directors of the nine-month training center that is geared to equip and send full time missionaries.

Recently, they have joined Calvary International as Directors of Church Relations and International Training Coordinators. They will be working with a team to train pastors and leaders around the world in Global Pathways. This is a mission’s mobilization tool that serves as a pastor’s guide to building a Great Commission church. The desire is to see emerging Christian nations take a major step from being a “missions receiving” nation to becoming a “missions sending” force in the earth.

The Oxendine’s will also be developing International Equipping Centers at established Calvary International missionary bases to train leaders. Through this leadership empowering program, national pastors and leaders will go to a whole new level of ministry effectiveness.

In 2000, Jim and Sherry also established "Unto the Least of These, Inc.," an organization to facilitate ministry to orphans in Russia and Ukraine. They are now providing housing, clothing, medicines and vocational training for children in these countries and many lives are being blessed and changed. We have been supporting their ministry since 1997 and we are thankful for the great work they are doing.

New Testament Churches in Ivory Coast, Africa (Mission la Voie de L'Evangile)

In 1992 a brother from the Ivory Coast came to America looking for teaching on what a church would look like that was built on the pattern found in the New Testament. A connection was made with Fountain of Life, in Kingston NY and New Testament Christian Fellowship, in Manchester NH. In 1993 the first short term mission trip was made to see what the Lord was doing in the Ivory Coast. Since that time many mission trips have been made, teaching and financial support have been given to help the church get established and grow. Today there are more than 35 fellowships spread over the Ivory Coast. Their vision is to evangelize and train people so that Jesus Christ will be the center of their lives, their families and their local churches. We have been supporting the ministry since 2002 and we are thankful for the great work they are doing.

Stan & Heather in Israel

Stan (Shmuel), Heather (Chaya) and their family of five children have lived in Israel, since 1991. Since that time they have lived in a city outside of Tel Aviv. In 2001 a congregation was birthed in their city with the goal of bringing the awesome love of the God of Israel to His broken hearted and hurting people. The theme scripture has been Isaiah 61:1

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound."

The emphasis in the fellowship has always been on worship, intercession, and personal discipleship. Numerous people have come to Messiah and have been taught. Intercession continually goes up to bring God’s cleansing and blessing on all aspects of the city. Over a year ago, the fellowship opened its doors to help the community in humanitarian aid. Currently over 80 families receive food and clothing twice a month. Other projects are to come. Should not the believing community use their faith and love to meet human needs, thus exhibiting the reality of Messiah?  We have been supporting the work of this ministry since 2004 and we are thankful for the great work they are doing.

Houses of Home International - Guatemala Orphanage

"We named the place 'House of Hope' simply because the word "hope" carries aspirations. Hope is something that you never see, but you know is there. There are kids here are throwaways, they're forgotten, and they’re abused. What gives them life is hope. Hope for a better future and hope for a family of their own. Here they are able to sit at dinner with a mother and a father. They've never done that in their whole lives." (Houses of Hope International)

People for Missions and Houses of Hope International was founded in 1987. Their mission is to bring hope to a hurting world by nurturing potential through family significance. Their vision is to use a family model having fewer children, with a mother and father instead of “warehouse style” orphanages. They are raising leaders with the capacity to change their world for good through education, training and the nurture provided by a loving family. There are there are currently over 30 homes for children in eight countries around the world. Some of theses nations are; Guatemala, India, Uganda, Burma / Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Through Orphanages, schools and other outreaches Houses of hope and People for Missions are directly caring for over 500 children worldwide. With several thousand more being helped through schooling and other programs.

Our church has taken groups on short-term mission trip to Guatemala in 2004, 2006 and 2008. This is a great opportunity for adults and teens to change the lives of others as well as their own. A detailed report of our trips is posted on our church web site. We have been supporting this ministry since 2004 and are thankful for the great work they are doing.

Long Island Youth Mentoring

It is the goal of Long Island Youth Mentoring, to assist the Church in her God given task of ministry to the community, specifically their orphaned and vulnerable young people. This wonderful work began in 1981. We all have a picture in our minds of the type of child that Youth Mentoring works with. We see them in the news and hanging out on street corners. We call them "troubled teens" or "at-risk kids." However, many other children who are common to Youth Mentoring are unseen, unnoticed, withdrawn and too often friendless. God sees all these children and calls them "Mine."

A Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His Holy dwelling. (Psalm 68:5)

God loves these kids and is concerned about them. He is sending His people to go to them, to express His love and to show them the way out of multi-generational bondage.

God spoke to Moses from a bush. "I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them… I am sending you." (Exodus 3: 7 & 9)

Children growing up in very difficult circumstances need to experience love that is expressed over time. Our mentors spend 2-4 hours with these children each week. The consistency of this commitment speaks loudly. It says, "You are valuable. What you think about and the things that bother you are important." It also gives the mentor the ability to interact with the child in circumstances that cannot be planned into a curriculum. "Why did you let that driver in? Why didn't you honk and curse him out?" You cannot schedule quality time or teachable moments. However, when kids receive a few hours with a consistent mentor on a weekly basis, these God-inspired moments show up unannounced. While ministry has visited our church for many years, we began supporting them monthly in 2008 and are thankful for the great work they are doing.
